Right libertarian review of "The Giver"

This week, there has been another movie released that depicts some sort of dystopian future world/society and this time, it has gained some traction with the right-libertarians.

Short review of this film titled "The Giver" at Spectator.org here, some excerpts:

What do progressives want? If you want to know, to really see, then pack up the wife and kids and head to your local movie theater on August 15.  

Based on the Lois Lowry novel, a new movie called The Giver is going to change the way people think about the nanny state. 

The movie is not some sort of right-wing propaganda film. So why do I say all conservatives should see it? Because it shows us what’s at stake. 

Conservatives, especially pro-life people of faith and liberty-loving tea partiers, will identify with certain elements of the movie. In fact, in a few moments, I had to remind myself that this film actually came out of Hollywood. 

But here’s the truth. Liberty, life, and love are age-old concepts that weren’t extinguished when Obama took office. These ideas still reside in our hearts and minds. 

That a major Hollywood studio produced a film about their importance shows these values transcend politics. 

In fact, I wouldn’t even describe The Giver as political. It’s more about what it means to be a human and how we want our culture to be. 

To all of my Tea Party friends, get to the movie theater to see why we’re fighting. As our liberty is gradually eroded, we are slumping toward the world of The Giver. 

Let’s have another revolution.

These libertarians are sick and suffering from delusions.

These libertarians are apparently forming their world view in reaction to fictional movies that depict a fantasy dystopian world rather than the actual world we are living in.

The author admirably cites a review at "The Federalist", let's look at what "Federalism" is:  Federalism is a political concept in which a group of members are bound together by covenant (Latin: foedus, covenant) with a governing representative head. The term "federalism" is also used to describe a system of government in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided between a central governing authority and constituent political units (such as states or provinces). Federalism is a system based upon democratic rules and institutions in which the power to govern is shared between national and provincial/state governments, creating what is often called a federation.

So these libertarians do not discern the contradiction or hypocrisy between libertarianism, which by definition is anti-government, and Federalism which is in fact a type of government?

So we name our anti-government website after a form of government?

The ability to discern contradiction is one of the first signs of intelligence.... libertarians do not possess this ability.

One grain of truth does come out here though, the author asserts: "I wouldn’t even describe The Giver as political."  and he's right it is not "political" as we can see libertarianism existing on both the left and right politically.

So he is correct it is not political it is a movie that takes place not along the "left-right" axis it takes place along the "authority-liberty" axis, so his assessment here is accurate.

It looks like your typical garden-variety libertarian film depicting a fictional dystopian future world in a deluded and hyperbolic effort to cover the truth about human authority and the government institution that we create to administer this authority.

And its disturbing here where the guy ends his review with: "Let's have another revolution.".... Scary!
