Art of the deal.

A Trump/Bernie ticket? we rarely see coalitions the opposite ends to push the middle. I don't think Bernie would do that to his good pals in the Hillary establishment but maybe as a threat to force the Hillary people to feel the Bern.

idk if he (Trump) would go as far as that Ryan but who knows...

I think the easy way would be to go right to Bernie when he drops out see if they could work out a deal... but this is as far as it goes currently:

"Trump said on MSNBC: "Bernie Sanders has a message that's interesting. I'm going to be taking a lot of the things Bernie said and using them."

Have to wait to see if Bernie drops out and then what happens immediately ... and I'm sure the Hillary people have taken notice of this latest from Trump...

Yes and no. Yes, some Bernie supporters will hold their nose and vote for Trump rather than Hillary.

No, SheepDog Bernie himself will not support Trump in anyway. Bernie is a Democrat, he'll try to keep his flock inside the Democratic party. That's what sheepdogs are for.

Smart move from Trump there. Not only by picking up stuff Bernie says but to openly acknowledge where from will put a lot more stress on those trying to ignore him.

Sims this is like his Atlantic City deals where he already had a casino and then the Taj Mahal guy "dropped out" (died) and Trump went after that project to take it over in process... he ended up getting it...

(btw didnt work out long term... got screwed via the "external sector" as more gambling was allowed in other regional jurisdictions...)

Might also give Trump more cred among voters when openly acknowledge he's getting it from a political opponent, not only within the same party but a Democrat.

The usual political practice is to pretend to be the originator of ideas and that those ideas are different than the opponents in some huge way.
So if for instance Hillary tries to rip of some of Trumps stuff but not give him cred for it, it might backfire if Trump can highlight such a theft, making Hillary look even less trustworthy, if that's possible…

Well I'd like to see him bring Bernie in if Bernie drops out and returns back to pure Independent status ... but seems like a stretch at this point... Trump has said he thinks Bernie should run as Independent....

this is something to keep an eye on though... if Trump could somehow pull it off imo he would get a landslide and we might get a big realignment of the 2 parties...

Have to watch what happens immediately if Bernie drops out probably both Clinton and Trump will go after him/his voters....

That would also favour Trump, and open more options to manage congress in the future.

Regardless of what we think of either candidate, realistically speaking one needs a party infrastructure and support if expects to gain and hold power, being able to manage the executive branch.

Any "populist" politician of the XX century which achieved power had after him a strong supporting structure. Some did fail to get power before they had a strong enough supporting structure (ie. Hitler). Sanders is too old to build upon his movement to materialize such structure, although current tech and communications mean that such parties can be materialized and gain support faster than ever(just look at Europe).

The hope is that regardless of what Sanders do, some of the more youth disenfranchised supporters which don't like capitalism uber alles (apparently >50% now) may pick up to materialize those structures.

Both the GOP and Democratic Parties are now irrevocably split.

It's not a matter of personalities but identity.

Personalities will arise in each of the parties based on identity and the battle will be over the numbers that can be generated to identify with those personalities politically.

This will be acute because which ever side predominates in a party will ostracize the other side from positions of power and even participation other than when absolutely required to carry a vote.

Major realignments are in the works that will persist far beyond 2016.

If HRC should win, those that supported Sanders will be out in the cold for her entire administration.

This probably will result in the growth of a new movement within the US political system instead of an outside opposition like Occupy.

If Trump wins, it will be interesting to see what happens. The battle for the heart and soul of the GOP will be on.

Just as the Democratic Party is struggling to find a post FDR identity other than the Clinton-dominated New Democrats, which is just moderate Republicanism; so to, the GOP is struggling to find a post Reagan identity.

The battle will be for the hearts and minds of the Millennials, who are the new Boomers in scope.

Itll be a "witch hunt" imo Tom.... he will work to get rid of any remaining GOPer who is not with him... ie "if youre not with me youre against me..." type thing...
